WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – Perhaps the last effort to get another COVID 19 stimulus package out of Capitol Hill before the month, the year and the current Congressional session ends was unveiled on Tuesday.
A bipartisan group of eight US Senators unveiled a $900 billion proposal that would earmark $288 billion for small business, $180 billion for additional unemployment insurance, and $160 billion for state, local and tribal governments. Fred Upton of St. Joseph and fellow members of the bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus were on hand to lend their support for the proposal.
“We worked through the weekend,” the veteran Congressional Republican said on “WHTC Morning News” during his weekly appearance on Tuesday. “The numbers are pretty much there, and I hope we have an agreement.
“The majority of the Problem Solvers Caucus supports where we are. The President, as I understand it, will support the package as well. If we can get this done, this will be the relief that we all been waiting for months.”
Whether this package can navigate the highly partisan waters of the Capitol in three weeks remains to be seen.
