HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A Park Township homeowner grabbed the garden hose to attack a garage fire and Park Township firefighters joined the fray moments later, with professional equipment.
No one was hurt, but the fire damage to the home at 2229 Sunset Bluff Drive is estimated at $15,000, according to a note to WHTC from Park Township Fire Chief Scott Gamby.
Lt. Andy Slagh led the fire crew when the call came at 8:03 p.m. A passerby called 911, having spotted flames on the outside of the home, Gamby said.
Firefighters knocked the the bulk of the blaze within minutes, before it could get from the outside of the garage into the home’s living area. The fire did damage part of the garage’s attic, Gamby said. Firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.
The fire’s cause of the fire is under investigation. Park Township firefighters were aided at the scene by an AMR ambulance EMT team and Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies.
Gamby noted that homeowners should make sure their trash containers are well away from any combustible material.
