ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As a new round of COVID-19 restrictions goes into effect in Michigan at Midnight, an admittedly fatigued public is being asked to endure a ninth month of the outbreak.
That fatigue is expressed by leaders such as Joe Biden, who warned of a very dark winter in asking for more coronavirus relief from Congress, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer has mentioned “pandemic fatigue” more than once in her recent remarks. A new study from the University of Southern California highlighted a growing sense of frustration and resignation over continued health-related restrictions among its respondents.
However, one should not lose hope, according to Ron Lewis, President of Spectrum Health-Zeeland Community Hospital. “We do feel optimistic that, if we take caution, (and) we are able to get a vaccine out, we do see brighter days, sooner than later” he said during a Monday appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.” “What we do want to do is to control as much loss and devastation through that time.”
Michigan’s renewed restrictions on high schools, colleges, universities, casinos, dine-in restaurants/bars, ice skating rinks and bowling alleys are slated to run through December 8th.
