ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A Lakeshore school district won’t be seeing its students in person until the end of the month.
On Wednesday, Zeeland Public Schools notified parents, guardians and the community that, “for the health and well-being of our students, staff and community … ZPS will alter the immediate in-person academic calendar to a remote calendar until after Thanksgiving break.” Virtual classes will be held for all students by next Tuesday through the following Tuesday, November 24th, with the hope of resumption of in-person learning on November 30th.
Superintendent Cal DeKuiper says that “every intention is to continue education.” “We know that kids are better off for their mental and physical health, the academic side,” he said during a recent appearance on “WHTC Morning News.” “We also know about daycare situations and what our employers need, and my request as a school administrator would be for everyone possible to follow as many safety protocols as you can so that we can stay in school.”
Other Lakeshore districts have had to put separate buildings on virtual learning at times during this fall academic semester due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
