LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Saying that wearing a mask is the law in Michigan under orders by the Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has asked Republican leaders in the State Legislature to give their approval to a requirement to have people wear masks during indoor and outdoor gatherings.
She made her request during a press briefing on Thursday as COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Michigan.
Whitmer says the policy “deserves the Legislature’s stamp of approval.”
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says she’s very concerned about what they’re seeing across the state in regards to COVID-19 cases.
She painted a bleak and dark picture for the upcoming holiday saying if people don’t change their behaviors, the State of Michigan could see 100 COVID-19 related deaths per day by December.
Hospitalizations are also up in every region of the state. Spectrum Health reported on Thursday their facilities are near capacity.
