ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The phrase “overabundance of caution” that has been prevalent during the COVID 19 outbreak could be used again by the Ottawa County Department of Public Health.
Despite a drop in novel coronavirus cases on the main campus of Grand Valley State University since a “Staying in Place” order was issued on September 17th, the department’s Health Officer Lisa Stefanovsky announced on Thursday that the order has been extended two more weeks, through October 16th. “We appreciate all the hard work of our COVID 19 response team, working closely with GVSU’s administrative leaders, and recognize the challenges that GVSU students and staff have had to endure,” she said in making the decision that the department claims would “continue a downward trend of positive COVID 19 cases.”
The order maintains a four-person limit on visits to student housing and congregating indoors on campus, as well as a 10-person outdoor gathering limit outside of dining, and mandatory masking indoors and outdoors. It was initially issued to address a surge of 370 active cases of COVID 19 as of mid-September, with a majority coming from students who live off-campus.
