ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) – The University of Michigan football team may begin using pads in practice this week.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh said the program was told when daily Covid-19 testing is available, the team will be able to resume contact in drills. The testing could begin as early as today or tomorrow.
The Wolverines began work outs in mid-August, but have not been able to wear pads during practice. U-of-M opens the season October 24 at Minnesota.
Meantime, less than a week after the Mid-American Conference reversed course and announced it would play a six-game fall season beginning November 4, Buffalo said 19 players have tested positive for the coronavirus and that the team will suspend activities through at least Monday.
West Virginia, meanwhile, said it will allow about 15,000 fans at home games starting October 17 against Big 12 foe Kansas.
