John August Napoli, Sr., 78, of Fennville, MI passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital, Grand Rapids. Born October 1, 1941 in Harvey, IL, he was the son of the late Frank Dominic and Edna Frederika (Schultz) Napoli. John was a devout Catholic and a forty-year member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Douglas. He was a member of the Carmelite Third Order and the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. John had worked for Forged Steel for fifteen years and had been a senior maintenance engineer at West Shore Mall for over thirty years. In his younger years, he had played semi-professional baseball as a pitcher. John was a self-proclaimed food lover. He never met a person he did not like, especially if that person happened to be a cook. Above all else, John loved to spend his time with his family. He was a kind and gentle man who passionately shared his spirituality with his boys, his family and his friends.
John is survived by his sons, John A. (Lorna) Napoli, Anthony A. Napoli, David G. (Ruth) Napoli, Mark D. (Mary) Napoli, Matthew J. (Susan) Napoli, Andrew J. Napoli and Frank R. (Jessica) Napoli; siblings, Grace Greiner, Janet Schade, Frank (Judith) Napoli Jr., Mary Napoli and Linda Jensen; siblings-in-law, Dan Sullivan, Michael Cistaro and June Napoli; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Phyllis Sullivan, Eugene Napoli, Marjorie Cistaro, Nancy Napoli and Charles Napoli; siblings-in-law, Glen Greiner, Goldie Napoli, Paul Schade, Charles Jensen, Daniel Sullivan and Michael Cistaro.
The family will receive friends at Chappell Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Peter Catholic Church on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Douglas Cemetery.
