SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A time of transition in Saugatuck city government continues.
During a business meeting set for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2020, the City Council is expected to accept the Sept. 1, 2020, resignation of Kirk Harrier after 14-and-a-half years of service at that post. Harrier did not explain in his letter the reasons for his departure, but only that he would stay on through the month of September, as per terms of his contract with the city, in order to facilitate the transition for his replacement.
Council is also expected to approve an agreement with Karen Doyle Holman to be the Interim City Manager while a search for Harrier’s permanent replacement is conducted. She had been Zeeland’s Assistant City Manager and Finance Director for 12 years until her retirement in 2017, and has past experience as a city manager in White Cloud, along with finance director experience in Wayland and Plainfield Township.
This is the second change in Saugatuck’s government setup in the past few weeks. On Aug. 31, 2020, Erin Wilkinson took over as City Clerk, replacing Cindy Osman, who had handled the office on a temporary basis, along with her duties as Saugatuck’s planning and zoning administrator, since the resignation of Monica Nagel in May after 13 years at the post.
