WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – While a new stimulus bill may be a political sticking point on Capitol Hill, help for small businesses who had to made adjustments in how they conduct business may be forthcoming.
The Healthy Workplaces Tax Credit, formally introduced in the US House yesterday (although members of the Lower Chamber won’t return to Washington until next week), would “encourage and enable businesses to take the recommended steps to prevent the spread of COVID 19 in their workplace with a refundable tax credit against payroll taxes for half of the costs incurred in preventing the spread,” according to St. Joseph Congressman Fred Upton.
“For responsible employers that have additional costs that they really had to go (through), let’s give them a tax credit for those steps that they were able to take,” he said on “WHTC Morning News” during his weekly appearance yesterday. “This provides tax credits so that employees are safe, the workplace is safe, and if it’s a place where customers come in, that they’re going to be safe. It provides an incentive to make sure that it happens.”
Upton and fellow Republican Tom Rice of South Carolina are cosponsoring House Resolution 7615.
