HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The final phase in the reconstruction of one of Holland’s main east-west thoroughfares is coming.
The third of three steps in renovating 16th Street from Kollen Park Drive to Lane Avenue begins on Tuesday. City officials announced on Thursday that East 16th, from Lincoln to Fairbanks avenues, will be closed to through traffic, with East 14th Street the primary detour route.
“This will cause travel delays, as commuters will have to follow the posted detour or choose another east/west roadway for their travels,” said City Manager Keith Van Beek and City Engineer Brian White in a joint statement.
The reworking of 16th Street began in mid-June and is expected to last through late October. The second phase, which ran from Pine to Columbia avenues and included a partial closures of the River Avenue-16th Street junction, should be completed on Friday, ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend.
