HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Michigan State Police report that 31 people died on Michigan roads since last week.
That makes a total of 572 traffic-crash deaths year.
Another 142 people were seriously injured statewide, for a total of 2,726 since January.
Compared to this time last year, that is 12 more traffic deaths and 426 fewer serious injuries.
Police also are reminding people that summer is the most-dangerous season fo teen drivers, who are four times more likely to experience crashes than adult drivers.
More teen driving fatalities occur in the summer than any other time of the year.
Police say teens have more freedom during the summer months, which means they attend more social gatherings and are more likely to engage in high-risk activities, like speeding, underage drinking, and drug use.
They are encouraging parents to talk to their teen drivers about risks and safe practices.
