HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — South Haven Rotarians pulled off a successful virtual fundraiser Sunday, Aug 9, 2020.
For nearly 50 years these Rotarians sponsored a pancake breakfast at the South Haven Airport, at the same time as the National Blueberry Festival — and COVID-19 led to the festival’s cancellation.
So the Rotarians decided to go it alone, safely, by sponsoring a virtual pancake breakfast fundraiser, from the downtown pavilion.
They live-streamed the event on Facebook with a goal of raising $9,000 in 90 minutes. Money poured in, mostly on-line, totaling $11,000.
Some people visited the pavilion to watch the production and those donating received safely packaged Jiffy pancake mix with blueberries freshly picked from DeGrandchamp Farms of South Haven.
Breakfast co-chairs Rosalie Plechaty and Dan Thompson hosted the production, showcasing many of the organizations destined to get Rotary donations.
Over the last year, South Haven Rotarians have given a record $51,000 to local, regional and international non-profit organizations, according to members of the service club.
