WAYLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 26-year-old Schoolcraft woman, Brittany Fender, died late Friday when a car hit the horse she was riding, according to Allegan County Sheriff’s authorities.
Police, dispatched to 146th Avenue near Ninth Street in Leighton Township, learned three people had been riding horses west on 146th when a westbound car, with a 22-year-old Byron Center woman at the wheel, hit two of the horses.
Fender, rushed to a nearby hospital, succumbed to her injuries there, police said. The second rider suffered minor injuries and decline treatment at the scene.
The driver and third horse rider were not injured, police said.
Allegan County Sheriff’s Office reconstruction team is investigating the crash.
Leighton Township firefighters, Wayland Area EMS, Thornapple EMS, and Kent County Medical Examiner officials assisted Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies during this incident.
