HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Libraries are beacons of democracy and civic-minded library staff have long conducted programs centered around democracy running up to Election Day.
Herrick District Library patrons will vote for their favorite books Oct. 28 through Nov. 5 during thelibrary’s fourth annual HDL Readers’ Choice Awards.
The nominees are based on the past year’s circulation numbers and are among the highest circulating books of the library.
Voting won’t be limited to grownups in this election.
“We think it’s important for kids to know their voices are important – and that voting is important,” saidorganizer Anne Pott.
Voters can cast their ballots starting Monday, Oct. 28, at herrickdl.org/content/herrick-district-library-readers-choice-award-ballot and at both Herrick District Library locations, 300 S. River Ave. and 155Riley St.
The contests are divided up into several categories. Youth categories are kids’ picture books, beginner chapter books, chapter books, comic books and graphic novels and nonfiction. Teen categories are teen realistic fiction, fantasy and comics/graphic novels/manga. Adult categories are adult nonfiction, fiction, mystery and sci-fi/fantasy.
“Be an informed voter and grab a copy to read before the vote,” Pott said.
