HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County’s chief assistant prosecutor Lee Fisher has filed as a Republican candidate to replace retiring Prosecutor, Ronald J. Frantz.
Fisher, a career prosecutor, has been with the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office for nearly 29 years.
“I am running because I am committed to protecting the rights of victims, most importantly our children, and making sure that Ottawa County continues to be a safe and exceptional place to live,” he said in a statement emailed to media. “I have always been committed to justice for the people of Ottawa County. Based upon my years of service and the relationships I have built with the courts, law enforcement, social service agencies and the defense bar, it will create a seamless transition for the Prosecutor’s Office.”
Franz is endorsing Fisher, saying he is “eminently qualified to be the next elected Prosecuting Attorney for Ottawa County. He has experience in every facet of prosecution work and is well equipped to assume the role. He is focused on promoting public safety and protecting the rights of all crime victims, especially children, while demonstrating the highest levels of ethics and integrity.”
Fisher has handled thousands of felony cases include the 2014 cold case conviction of Ryan Wyngarden for the 1987 murder of his sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Rick Brink; the 2018 cold case conviction of Robin Root for the 2007 murder of Janna Kelly who’s body was found in a blueberry field in Port Sheldon Township; and trials and convictions of numerous gang members, including the first publicly acknowledged gang related case in Ottawa County, in 1993.
Fisher has also served as President of the St. Joseph County Stop Child Abuse and Neglect Council. He participates in specialty courts for those defendants struggling with addiction issues. He is a past team member for the Ottawa County 20th Circuit Court Recovery Court and is a current team member of the 58th District Court Sobriety Treatment Court program.
Lee and his wife Deb, each West Michigan natives, have been married for 36 years. They have three daughters and three grandchildren.
