WRIGHT TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A collision of two off-road vehicles in an area between Marne and Coopersville on Friday evening led to the hospitalization of a teenager.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, first responders were dispatched to 32nd Avenue south of Arthur Street just after 8 PM. When they arrived, they found one ATV rolled over. “Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that both ATV’s were being operated on the roadway when one operator attempted to turn around in the roadway and lost control of his ATV, causing it to roll over,” Dill explained. “When the ATV rolled over, both the driver and passenger were thrown from the ATV and suffered head injuries. The passenger was treated by LIFE EMS and released to parents at the scene; the operator was transported to (Spectrum Health) Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital by LIFE EMS with suspected head and neck injuries.
“There was no collision with the second ATV, and the operator and passenger of that ATV were not injured. Both vehicles were not road licensed and are traditional-style ‘quad’ ATVs. None of the parties involved were wearing helmets.”
No names were disclosed, and Dill didn’t say which of the two boys that were injured – one was 15 and the other was 16 – was hospitalized. The crash remains under investigation.
