WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Growth was the central theme of the annual State of the County Address.
Delivered on Tuesday before the county Board by Administrator Al Vanderberg, the statement of where the county stands now highlighted a number of positive developments, including topping Michigan’s 83 counties in population growth and being near the top in the lowest unemployment rate. He also mentioned the county’s strong financial position, robust innovation and technology infrastructure, and plans to advance the county’s cultural intelligence initiative with a new, dedicated department.
Among the top 10 issues to watch for in 2019, according to the administrator, are implementing a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office as well as a Public Defender’s Office; completing facility upgrades, the pension funding plan and a pilot for a robotic wayfinding system; and making major progress on a new Justice Center.
