HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An operator has been found for the Holland Civic Center, but nothing is finalized yet.
Although the City Council last night approved VenuWorks as the independent “business manager” for operating the renovated facility, a proposed five-year agreement was tabled in order to finalize a formal pact with the Iowa-based building operator. The Civic Center Place Board recommended VenuWorks over SMG, in part because of a proposed 65 hundred-dollar per month management fee, as compared to 75 grand per month that SMG had asked for.
In remarks to council, Deputy City Manager Matt Van Dyken stressed urgency in reaching a deal with VenuWorks, saying that many annual events that the facility could accommodate need to schedule a year or more in advance. Details such as a business plan that covers all aspects of operations must also be finalized.
Council’s next business meeting is on February 21st; the matter may come up for discussion in next Wednesday’s bi-weekly work-study session.
