HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A course of action for the future of the Holland Civic Center could be put into place this evening.
During the biweekly City Council meeting, members will be asked to approve two proposals. One is to enter into a five-year agreement with Iowa-based VenuWorks “for the management, marketing and programming of the Holland Civic Center Place.” While both VenuWorks and SMG had equal bids of four thousand dollars a month in pre-opening services, VenuWorks only asked a 65 hundred per month management fee, while SMG wanted 75 grand monthly. The Civic Center Board made the recommendation based in part on costs and what it felt was “the best fit for the facility and the community,” according to Acting City Manager Matt Messer.
In addition, Council will be asked to approve a 10-year lease agreement with Holland Christian Schools to allow the Maroons to host boys and girls basketball games at the Civic Center, with an initial rental fee of 900 dollars per event, with Holland Christian paying for new scoreboards and a playing floor. The facility would also be open for team practices. The Maroons are playing their games at DeVos Fieldhouse this year while the Civic Center is being renovated, with an October opening scheduled.
