HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An annual car show on Holland’s North Side will help an Allendale family make ends meet after the death of the head of the household.
Dan Masterton had been an installation technician before coming down with a lingering illness that was diagnosed last October as Esophageal Cancer, and he succumbed about six months later at the age of 31. His wife Kim stepped away from a career as a special ed teacher to tend to her husband, and now must raise two toddler-aged sons.
When the Masterton’s story came before Ken Harper and fellow organizers of the Cruise In Benefit Show, the decision was made the family the beneficiary of the event’s proceeds.
“It’s hard to choose a recipient because we get so man nominations and we interview and look at the most need and that kind of thing to give the money away. Dan was a soccer coach and he did a lot with kids. Everything was so short for him. It doesn’t make any sense sometimes, but that’s why we’re gonna do it for Kim and the two boys.
The 16th annual show is on Friday evening from 5 PM to 9 PM at the Trendway complex off of Quincy Street and 136th Avenue.
