HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The new power plant at Holland Energy Park was the talk of the town this week.
With judges from England and Canada in town for Communities in Bloom International Challenge one of the stops on their visit was the Holland Energy Park as they focused on environmental efforts and sustainability.
Holland Mayor Nancy DeBoer says there were also executives in town from the automation company Siemen’s based in Germany. Siemans worked with Holland Board of Public Works (HBPW) on the new power plant.
DeBoer says they are impressed with what they saw.
“They are doing a whole video story about Holland. Taking oictures at Centennial Park and the new power plant. Lot’s of conversations went on and they even had a little family out there for the video so it looked like what the future will look like. They plan on coming back this fall.”
DeBoer says once Sieman’s produces the videos they will put them on their website so the videos can showcase their business and for other communities to think about how Holland did things.
On October 2, 2017, Power Week will kick off with a private event at Holland Energy Park and a ribbon cutting ceremony. After that it will be open to the public with tours and people will be able to have much more access. Right now the the new 240 million-dollar, 145-megawatt, natural gas-fueled facility off of Fairbanks Avenue is operating at 70 megawatts of power.
