HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – National Night Out, the biggest block party in Holland of the year, is coming back to Kollen Park next week Tuesday, Aug. 1st.
Millions of neighbors in communities across all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases take part in National Night Out every year, which helps strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
The theme for Holland’s National Night out is “A Going Away Party for Crime and Drugs.” This is the 26th year that Holland has participated in the event, with the city being recognized the national event committee in all but one year.
There will be plenty of family-oriented things to do, including music, kids activities, a vintage car show, even a pie eating contest for both kids and adults. The Ottawa County Sheriff Department, Holland Public Safety, Coast Guard, and various Holland Firehouses will also be demonstrating safety practices for both kids and adults alike. Stick around after dusk for Movies in the Park, which will be showing the Disney animated feature Moana.
Sue Harder, the City of Holland Community Development Coordinator responsible for this event, says that this event should help make people aware of crime and drug prevention in the community, but also have fun doing it. “The purpose of the event is to give the police and the community and opportunity to do something together that is fun. We are trying to get people involved in positive things in the community, so they don’t get involved in negative things.”
National Night Out is a mostly free event in Kollen Park taking place on Tuesday, August 1 at 4 p.m.
