WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) – Two persons remain in custody and one person is charged in the shooting of a 28-year-old Grand Rapids man in a parking lot across from the main entrance to the Grand Valley State University campus in Allendale on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 2 AM in the parking lot of an off-campus apartment complex in the 4400 block of Lake Michigan Drive. In an update issued on Sunday, Sheriff’s Captain Valerie Weiss said that the two persons apprehended shortly after the incident were indeed involved and were known to the unnamed victim, who is recovering from critical wounds at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital.
A 23-year-old man, whose identity and hometown were not immediately disclosed, was taken into custody “without incident,” and he awaits arraignment on felony charges of assault with intent to murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Capt. Weiss didn’t say whether the 23-year-old was one of the two that were arrested, or whether he was in a black four-door sedan that a witness claimed drove off from the scene before deputies arrived.
The case remains open, and tips to the Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer are welcome.
