ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 28-year-old Grand Rapids man was critically hurt, two persons are in custody, and another person is being sought following a reported shooting at a parking lot across from the main entrance to Grand Valley State University’s campus in Allendale overnight.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Valerie Weiss, witnesses called 911 around 2 AM, saying that they had heard gunshots in the area of 4400 Lake Michigan Drive. First responders found the unnamed victim wounded, but conscious and alert, and he was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment.
Capt. Weiss said that two unnamed “subjects” were taken into custody and that a “witness” seen driving off in a black four-door sedan is being sought for questioning. No other circumstances surrounding the incident were immedately disclosed. An alert sent this morning by GVSU officials to the campus community about the incident indicated that the victim was not a student at the school.
