HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 14-year-old Chicago boy who is the friend to the family of 17-year-old drowning victim Christopher Mimis may face a juvenile charge for spray painting a memorial on the pier at Holland State Park.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Mark Bennett says the teen admitted to spray painting part of the pier. ” There was a group that was kind of keeping vigil out there and a small number of those chose to spray paint some of the pier. We certainly understand the grieving process and the friends and family that have presumably lost a love one, but we just can’t allowed the property there to be defaced.” Bennett said.
The Sheriff’s Office will be sending a report to the Prosecutors office to see if there is any criminal charges that would be applied or levied and in this case it would be a juvenile charge of destruction of property.
Mimis’ body has not yet been recovered. Sgt. Cal Kuening of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Dive Team says tells WHTC News they will be out there again today on the water patrolling.
A memorial service to celebrate drowning victim 14-year old Vincent Green‘s life will be 11:00 am, Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Maple Avenue Ministries, 427 Maple Ave., Holland.
