HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A brother and sister are in North Ottawa Community Hospital after a near drowning in a private pond in Grand Haven Township.
According to Sgt. Cal Kuening of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, a six-year-old boy and a 9-year old girl were swimming in a private pond near 13000 block of Acacia Drive when deputies and Grand Haven Fire Rescue were dispatched around 1 p.m. Thursday, August 11.
Both children were seen under the surface of the water in the pond by their Mother. The Mother entered the water first reaching her son. As she pulled him out, he began to cry and once ashore ran to a nearby house.
Next the Mother pulled her 9-year-old daughter out of the water who was not breathing. A neighbor assisted by starting CPR on the girl and shortly after the girl began to cry and regained consciousness.
Both children were conscious when they transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital. At this time their condition is unknown.
The incident remains under investigation.
