HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A week of extreme emotions for the Holland Christian High School community continues.
Visitation is this evening from 5 to 8 PM, with a funeral service set for tomorrow morning at 11 AM, both at Christ Memorial Church on Holland’s South Side, for Riley Hoeksema, a 16-year-old student whose body was recovered yesterday afternoon in the waters of Lake Michigan around Holland State Park.
Hoeksema and another 16-year-old, reportedly identified as Levi Winkle, were thrown from an inflatable-hulled boat when it made a sharp turn in waters north of the park on Sunday evening. Winkle was rescued by a passing vessel shortly after the incident, but it took side sonar to spot Hoeksema’s body in around 27 feet of water nearly three days later. The visitation and funeral had been arranged by the teen’s family prior to the recovery of his body.
Last Saturday, Holland Christian celebrated it’s first-ever boys’ baseball state high school tournament championship.
