LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Freshman State Representative Mary Whiteford (R-South Haven) was among a number of lawmakers who sponsored legislation dealing with veterans that were signed into law by Governor Snyder today.
A total of 21 measures were enacted that creates the Office of the Michigan Veterans Facility Ombudsman within the Legislative Council that would investigate complaints filed by resident vets, by their family members or legal guardians, or by a lawmaker, along with creating a standard definition of the term “veteran.”
Whiteford was among a number of House members who took testimony from residents at the Grand Rapids VA home last week, investigating claims of neglect and mismanagement by facility staffers there.
