HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A west Michigan father who lost his son in a 2015 traffic crash will be joined by law enforcement officials and high school students and will speak during Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Jason Talsma is the father of traffic crash victim David Talsma who was killed by a distracted driver. In August of 2015, the13-year-old Hudsonville boy was killed and nine others were hospitalized in a five-vehicle pileup. Pickup truck driver Travis Fox, a 40-year-old Crown Point, Indiana man, was distracted by eating as traffic ahead of him slowed due to bridge work.
Talmsa will be joined by Undersheriff Steve Kemper of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s office and Michael L. Prince, director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety on Monday April 25, at Unity Christian High School located at 5900 48th Ave in Hudsonville. The event starts at 9:30 a.m.
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and as part of observance, the Office of Highway Safety has distributed driving materials to schools and law enforcement officials across the state. Provisional information shows there were 7,517 crashes in Michigan during 2015 involving distracted driving, resulting in 27 fatalities and 2,350 injuries.
