A three-vehicle crash sent three people to the hospital early Friday morning, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Ruster.
The crash, at U.S. 31 and James Street in Holland Township, started when a driver headed west on James Street went through the blinking red light at U.S. 31. Thyra Eam, 45, of Jenison, was at the wheel 2004 Honda sedan, which was struck by a 2004 Lexus driven by Moy Rasasak, 44, of Holland, traveling south on U.S. 31.
The collision pushed Eam’s vehicle into northbound lanes, where it was struck again by a 2008 Mercury sedan driven by Griffin Wittum, 21, of Holland. Wittum escaped the crash uninjured, but his car caught fire after he exited it, Ruster said.
Holland Township firefighters doused the blaze, Ruster said, and the intersection was closed for about an hour.
Rasasak, Eam and Eam’s passenger, Evelyn Palomo, 37, of Holland, were all transported to Holland Hospital by AMR Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, Ruster said. All involved were wearing seatbelts, he said. The crash remains under investigation.
