OTTAWA COUNTY, MI (WHTC) – Ottawa County has been hard at work cleaning up various blighted and contaminated properties using the $400,000 grant it received from the EPA. Currently, the Ottawa County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority has used $360,000 out of the original $400,000 grant to redevelop 29 properties in Ottawa County.
Some of the properties that received assistance include the former Eagle Ottawa sit in Grand Haven, a former gas station in Blendon Township, and a former service station and auto repair shop in Wright Township. The improvements of these properties are estimated to spark 381 permanent jobs for the people of Ottawa County and generate $43 million in private investment when completed.
There is still $40,000 left over from the EPA grant and the County is seeking more eligible properties to revitalize. Examples of eligible properties include sites of former dry cleaners, metal plating facilities and gas stations. The EPA grant will conclude on September 30, 2016 whether the full amount of the grant has been spent or not.
