HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A new survey from State Farm Insurance has just released some startling new statistics concerning teen drivers. According to the report, almost half of teen drivers are still texting and driving, despite all efforts to warn them not to.
These findings were released as part of State Farm’s National Teen Driver Safety Week, which started on Sunday, Oct. 18 and lasts until Saturday, Oct. 24. Curiously, the survey also revealed that over 90% of teens say that they understand that texting while driving is dangerous, yet 44% say they still do it.Besides texting, teens listed talking with a passenger, listening to the navigation system, and searching for music as ways they are distracted in the car.
There is hope for these teens, however. The study shows that three-quarters of teens said they were less likely to use their cell phone when an adult was in the car, as well as two-thirds less likely to look at their phone when driving in poor weather conditions.
