UNDATED (WHTC)- Plans to set up a SmartZone in Holland took a temporary hiatus after majoe legislation wasn’t passed by Michigan state lawmakers. A Senate bill was looking to increase the total number of SmartZone economic developement districts from nine to three.
The bill is not dead but the Senate session ended before the bill could get formally passed. The bill passed both state chambers last month. The proposed change came about as a result of Grand Rapids wanting the City of Holland as a “satellite district”, which would have put tax financing dollars funding economic developement in the technology industry.
