GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The sentencing of a admitted 22-year-old murderer will have to wait another week.
The second postponement of Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Karen Miedema’s decision was yesterday in the case of Darveaille Blakeney. The Holland man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony firearm charges stemming from an October, 2016 incident in an apartment unit on Holland’s North Side in which he shot and killed 41-year-old Joseph Jordan, who was the boyfriend of Blakeney’s mother at the time.
Blakeney was originally slated for sentencing last Monday, but that was pushed back to yesterday. According to court officials, this latest postponement was at the request of both the county prosecutor’s office and the accused’s defense attorney. Judge Miedema is now slated to hand down her sentence next Monday afternoon.
