WRIGHT TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two people are in critical condition after they were struck on their motorcycle in Wright Township on Saturday.
Sgt. Bob Ruster of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to Arthur Street and 24th Avenue around 9:20 p.m. A 17-year-old woman from Marne whose name has not been released, was westbound on Arthur Street in a 2001 Chevy Blazer when she decided to pass a slower moving vehicle ahead of her. The driver did not see the 2003 Yamaha motorcycle driven by a 48-year-old man from Comstock Park. The driver of the Blazer attempted to avoid the motorcycle by driving off the roadway, but was unable to avoid the collision.
The two vehicles collided on the passenger side of the Blazer in a sideswipe motion. The man and his 43-year-old passenger were thrown from the motorcycle as a result of the impact. Neither the driver or passenger of the motorcycle were wearing helmets. The driver was treated at the scene and then transported by Aeromed to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in critical condition his passenger was transported in critical condition by Life EMS to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital as well.
The driver of the Blazer was not injured in the crash. No names have been released in the crash. Assisting the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were Wright Tallmadge Fire Rescue, Coopersville Polkton Fire Rescue, Life EMS and Aeromed.
