According to Ottawa County Mental Health, unused medicines in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends. Citizens are advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—pose potential safety and health hazards.
Those unable to attend the drug takeback events are encouraged to go to the Department of Public Health/Environmental Health website or the TalkSooner website for information about medication disposal sites throughout the county.
Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital will be holding a take back event on October 20th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 8333 Felch St, Zeeland, MI
