LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Legislation that would keep Michigan on Daylight Saving Time year-round is still under consideration by a state House committee.
A hearing was held yesterday with he Commerce and Trade Committee on the bill from Representative Peter Lucido of Macomb County.
Lucido says there are health reasons to stop changing time.
“Our sleep deprevation as well as the strokes and heart attacks, and the disrupting of students in school, the teachers all chimed in and so did the health industry. If it’s unhealthy, why is the state doing this? Are we trying to accommodate something that is easy or are we trying to accommodate something that we love which is more sunlight at night? So that we can go do what we love to do when we get out of work.”
Lucido has changed his original proposal, which would have kept Michigan on Eastern Standard Time year-round. The bill would now have the state on Daylight Saving Time, meaning no more “falling back.”
No vote was taken Tuesday, but if approved, Michigan would be an hour ahead of the East Coast and two hours ahead of Chicago during the winter.
