GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A memorial service has been set for a Grand Haven man who died when a tree fell on his home in Grand Haven during the July 7 storm.
According to his online obituary, Larry Thon was an officer in the United States Marine Corps having served in the Vietnam war. Thon attended Ottawa Hills High School. He went on to graduate from Northwestern University.
Thon leaves behind a wife who managed to escape from the home during the storms and a daughter, son, brother, and aunt.
A celebration of his life will take place at the the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post No. 28 in Grand Haven at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13. Mulligan’s Hollow Lodge will also host a happy hour in his honor from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 12.
Instead of flowers, Thon’s loved ones ask that donations be made in his honor to Grand Haven’s “Save the Catwalk” campaign.
