HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The poster for the Community Action Agency’s Walk For Warmth has been chosen for 2017 and this year the theme is flannel.
Jennifer Buikema who is a Senior at Holland Christian High School created the winning for 2017. The poster contest was incorporated into the art class taught by Elliot Slenk. This is the fourth year that Holland Christian has participated in the poster contest.
Buikema says she was thinking of things warm and flannel when coming up with the poster’s design. “I’ve made Christmas cards for my family and graphics for church and school events, but nothing this exciting!” says Buikema. “I think (graphic) design is a great life skill to have as it can apply to so many different fields of work.”
The contest was judged by Herman Miller Senior Manager of Corporate Marketing, Marc Singer. “Herman Miller is very involved in the local community and the Walk is a great, annual winter event that helps keep the heat on in area homes,” says Singer. “It was a fun but very challenging exercise in choosing the winner – there were a lot of great designs. In the end Jennifer’s graphic was strong and evocative, and her use of type was very effective.”
The poster was printed by Schreur Printing and will be distributed throughout Ottawa County.
The Community Action Agency’s Walk For Warmth is in it’s 29th year. Last year through their range of programs, they assisted over 3,500 qualified households in Ottawa County. If you are in need of assistance, details on how to apply for assistance are online.
