UNDATED (WHTC) – It should be a cool yet dry dusk for Halloween 2016 trick-or-treaters along the Lakeshore.
Three downtown districts will be holding special afternoon sessions for costumed youngers to stop by participating businesses for treats: Zeeland from 3-5 PM and both Grand Haven and Spring Lake from 4-6 PM.
Here’s the list of communities that have posted trick-or-treat times: Holland, Fennville, Grand Haven, Jenison, Coopersville, Ferrysburg and Spring Lake from 6-8 PM; Zeeland, Saugatuck and Allendale from 5-8 PM; Douglas from 4-7 PM; Allegan from 5:30-8 PM; South Haven from 5:30-7:30 PM; Otsego from 4-6 PM and Plainwell with only an end time of 8 PM.
Law enforcement and safety experts say that youngsters should be accompanied by adults, walk in familiar neighborhoods, be able to see out of masks properly, cross streets at crosswalks while obeying traffic signals, accept only pre-packaged treats and have their bag of treats checked out by parents/guardians for signs of tampering. There may also be participating homes with teal-lighted jack-o-lanterns that indicate that they are distributing safe treats for youngsters who may be allergic to peanuts and/or eggs that are ingredients in many candies.
Forecasters say that it should be partly cloudy around dusk on Monday along the Lakeshore, with temperatures in the low to mid 50’s for the trick-or-treaters.
