ASSYRIA TOWNSHIP (WHTC) – A Holland couple is being held in Illinois and awaiting extradition.
Barry County officials say a 66-year-old Assyria Township woman who was beaten and robbed by her son and duct-taped to a chair for over six hours on Monday, July 4, and is expected to recover after treatment at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, where she has been admitted for care.
Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf said she was assaulted when she refused to give her son the money he needed to get out of the state and avoid arrest for a previous assault on his girlfriend.
It took her six hours to free a leg, move to the phone and contact police.
Her son, Cory Wagner 27, and his girlfriend Tiffany Chanthavong, 21, both of Holland are being held in Illinois awaiting extradition.
Both were captured after they used his mother’s stolen credit card to rent a motel room.
