HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Meet three woman from Hope College’s Class of 2017.
WHTC News caught up with the college seniors on 8th Street in front of PeachTree Yogurt as they enjoyed their last night of freedom Monday, August 29, before school started the following day.
Kate Mader who played tennis for Hope College is majoring in Chemistry and hails from Grainger, Indiana. Lexi Strahler is in Business Management and is originally from Wheaton, Illinois. Cindy Alexander is the only Michigan native of the group from Rochester, majoring in Biology.
They shared their hopes and fears about entering the real world after graduation. Alexander says ” I’m unsure of what I want to do and if I will be able to achieve everything I want to do..” Strahler agreed, ” I’m also scared of where I will end up and if I will find a job.” Mader is taking a gap year to travel to Europe. “I have a year to figure out what I want to do then come later in life, then I’ll figure out what I want to do.”
When asked about their experience at Hope College, Mader said ” I love it. I’ve lived downtown for two years now. There is so much going compared to the small town that I grew up in.”
What do they love about Hope College? ” I love the student body and how much comradery there can be just amongst the classes, your major and your friends. It can be so diverse. but you can still be close to everybody. Strahler says she’s been able to do a lot of things that you couldn’t do at a big school and make friends out of it. Mader says she and Alexander met on the first day and are now roommates. ” I don’t think it a big school we would have been able to keep that connection. Alexander chimed in saying, “We didn’t find our husband on the first day, but we met our roommate!”
When all was said and done, all three remain positive and feel they will make a difference in the world.
Asked why they were out Monday night and not at home hitting the books, they answered in unison, “Classes don’t start till tomorrow.”
