Miguel Montero homered and plated two as the Cubs cut down the Reds yesterday, 5-2, to sweep a rain-shortened two-game series in Cincinnati. Chicago returns to the Friendly Confines for the first of three against Pittsburgh this evening. Travis Wood is scheduled to get the start against the Pirates’ Vance Worley. The Bucs come to Wrigley Field off of an 8-0 win over Arizona in Phoenix yesterday.
The White Sox scored five runs in the sixth inning in route to a 5-3 win over visiting Kansas City yesterday. This came on the heels of a 3-2 triumph over the Royals in the completion of Friday’s suspended game. Chicago is now in Baltimore for the first of three against the Orioles this evening. Hector Noesi is slated to be on the mound for the Pale Hose, while the Birds counter with Ubaldo Jimenez. The O’s blasted visiting Boston yesterday, 18-7.

Licking their wounds after being swept out of Dayton over the weekend, including yesterday’s 3-2 loss at Fifth Third Field, the Whitecaps are back at Fifth Third Ballpark tomorrow evening, opening up a three-game series against the renamed South Bend Cubs. The Red Wings will look to advance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight with a win against visiting Tampa Bay. Detroit leads the best-of-seven series, three games to two, after blanking the Lightning in Florida on Saturday, 4-0. If the Bolts win, a decisive game seven is at Amalie Arena on Wednesday evening. Awaiting the winner of the series are the Montreal Canadiens, who advanced last night with a 2-0 win at Ottawa, disposing of the Senators in six games.
For the second straight year, the Blackhawks will face Minnesota in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Chicago punched its ticket with Saturday’s 4-3 Game Six victory over visiting Nashville, while the Wild took care of St. Louis in game six at home yesterday, 4-1. The NHL is expected to announce second-round dates and times after tonight’s playoff action, which includes the Red Wings’ game and the decisive seventh contest between Washington and the New York Islanders.

The Bulls look to close out Milwaukee in Game Five of their East quarterfinal series at the United Center tonight. The Bucks stayed alive with a 92-90 win in the Bradley Center on Saturday, but Chicago still holds a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven set.

Toronto held serve in the Calder Cup first-round series against the Griffins, winning games one and two over the weekend at home, including yesterday’s 5-2 decision at the Ricoh Centre. Grand Rapids needs to sweep the next three contests at Van Andel Arena, beginning with Wednesday night’s encounter, in order to advance from of the best-of-five set.
