HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a boat crash on Lake Michigan, at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2020.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies and EMTs were called to the Pigeon Lake’s access point to help after the crash, acording to Capt. Mark Bennett.
Investigators found the 25-foot vessel was traveling at about 30 knots an hour when the boat hit rough waves, which sent two of the boat’s four occupants flying forward. The boat then stalled.
A 24-year-old Grand Rapids woman and a 21-year-old Allendale woman went by ambulance to Spectrum Zeeland Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
It’s unclear if the boat operator, a 23-year-old Grand Rapids man, was cited, or if the boat occupants were wearing flotation devices. The boat got towed back to Pigeon Lake by another watercraft.
