HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The event casualties from the COVID 19 outbreak continue to pile up.
The latest came on Wednesday from Grand Haven, where organizers of the annual Coast Guard Festival announced an outright cancellation of the 10-day celebration of this branch of the US military, and expressed hope that the development of a “herd immunity” to the novel coronavirus could be achieved by the time the festival would return, from July 30-August 8 of 2021.
Also on Wednesday, officials of Holland’s Downtown Development Authority and the Holland Farmers Market announced that a summer slate of scheduled activities – the weekly Wednesday Concerts in GDK Park, the weekly Thursday night downtown Street Performer Series, weekly Kids Wednesdays and Chef Series Saturday at the Farmers Market, and the Monday evening Farmers Market – will not be held in 2020, again due to health concerns.
“It’s really a focus of a quick and efficient shopping experience,” Farmers Market Master Sara Cozolino said on “WHTC Morning News” during her weekly segment on Wednesday. “We appreciate people coming out, and we love those activities as well, but it’s just not something that we can offer at this time. I don’t known when we would bring those back, because we are just all monitoring what is coming down the pipeline, but right now we’re just focused on having nice, safe and efficient shopping experiences.”
However, not all was lost on Wednesday, as the annual Downtown Holland Sidewalk Sale is still on for this August 7-8.
