ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A by-product of COVID 19-related restrictions will become standard in Allegan County moving forward.
During Thursday’s virtual board meeting, county commissioners approved allocating $10,000 for the acquisition and installation “of equipment and software for the purpose of live streaming Board of Commissioners and other County meetings emanating from the Board’s chambers, delivering quality video and audio that enables residents to clearly see and hear the meetings.”
This stems from what Board Chairman Jim Storey said was a positive public response to current Board and other county agency meetings being held via ZOOM and other online video chat platforms. “I do worry and don’t want to make (virtual meetings only) a practice when we’re free to be in the same rooms with everyone,” the Holland Republican said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during his monthly appearance last Friday.
This move in Allegan County comes amidst debate among Ottawa County commissioners about footing the costs of live streaming board meetings.
The next Allegan County Board virtual meeting is set for May 28th, scheduled for a few hours before the Governor’s latest “Safer at Home” executive order expires.
