HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 76-year-old man from Leroy died on Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Holland’s North Side.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant David VanderPloeg didn’t immediately disclose any names of those involved in the 12:55 PM incident near the intersection of Butternut and Shadybrook drives, just south of Riley Street. Investigators say that a SUV was attempting to pull out onto Butternut from a private driveway when his vehicle was broadsided by a northbound pick up truck, who had the right of way in this situation.
The SUV driver died as a result of the crash, while a passenger, a 74-year-old woman, also from Leroy, was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The pickup motorist, a 47-year-old Hudsonville man, suffered bumps and bruises “and declined transport to the hospital,” VanderPloeg said.
The incident remains under investigation.
