At 6:40 PM, catch the Reeths-Puffer at Zeeland West game with Greg Chandler on 99 7 and 1450 WHTC, or the Saugatuck at Black River contest on The Lakeshore’s 92 7 The Van. Other encounters include Holland at South Haven, Covenant Christian versus Holland Christian at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center, Loy Norrix at West Ottawa, and Hackett Catholic at Hamilton.
Last night, the state high school girls’ basketball tournament commenced with these scores: Zeeland West 49, Holland 35; West Ottawa 41, Zeeland East 22; Hamilton 54, Otsego 30; and Western Michigan Christian 66, Fennville 36. In boys’ play, Calvary won at Starr Albion Prep, 78-37.

Grand Valley State’s teams begin GLIAC basketball tournament play at home in Allendale this evening with a doubleheader. The women welcome the Michigan Tech Huskies to the Fieldhouse Arena in the opener, followed by the Lakers entertaining the Ashland Eagles in the men’s nightcap.
In state major-college basketball tonight: Michigan State is at Penn State; Eastern Michigan is at Western Michigan; Central Michigan is at Ball State; and Cleveland State is at Oakland.

Logan O’Connor’s goal with five and a half minutes left in the second period broke a 1-1 tie and enabled the visiting Colorado Avalanche to edge the Red Wings last night, 2-1. Detroit is home to the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena on Friday evening; due to Hope College NCAA women’s basketball tournament coverage, our next scheduled Red Wings’ broadcast on 99 7 and 1450 WHTC is this coming Sunday at 4:40 PM when the Tampa Bay Lightning come to Little Caesars Arena.

Spring training action yesterday saw the Detroit Tigers play an 11-11 tie with the Boston Red Sox; the Chicago White Sox fall to the San Diego Padres, 3-1; and the Chicago Cubs split their squad with split results, beating the Los Angeles Angels, 9-4, but losing to the Oakland Athletics, 5-2. Exhibition play this afternoon has the Tigers facing the Minnesota Twins in Florida, while in Arizona, the Cubs meet the Colorado Rockies and the White Sox battle the Oakland Athletics. Our next Tigers’ Grapefruit League broadcast on 99 7 and 1450 WHTC is on Thursday afternoon at 1 PM, when the New York Yankees come to Marchant Stadium.
