SPRING LAKE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A two-vehicle crash between Spring Lake and Fruitport late on Thursday night led to injuries for both drivers and possible hit-and-run charges against one of them for trying to flee the scene.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, a pickup truck and a SUV collided near the intersection of Fruitport Road and Willows Drive around 10:30 PM. The driver of the pickup truck, a 22-year-old Grand Haven area man, then drove his damaged vehicle away from the scene, but lost control and stopped the truck in the front yard of a nearby residence. He then fled on foot a short way before being cornered by some of the residents in the area, who kept him at bay until deputies arrived.
The suspect motorist, along with the 50-year-old Spring Lake area man who was driving the SUV, “were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries,” Dill added. “Both are in stable condition.”
No names were initially disclosed as the crash remains under investigation, and anyone with any information on the matter is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office (800-249-0911) or Silent Observer.
